Set up the parish in four phases

The priest and Parish Council remain responsible. The coordinator guides the process and keeps the records.

Build the foundation

Appoint the coordinator.
Confirm the parish has the required insurance coverage.

Make the lists

Identify every adult covered by the policy.
Collect annual worker and youth registrations.

Clear each person

Send the Miami volunteer screening and training path.
Verify every requirement before service begins.

Keep it current

Use the policy's safety practices every day.
Update records and submit annual certification.

2026 timing: The Year One review says new youth workers must complete background screening, training, and acknowledgement by September. The Policy is stricter for start dates: complete all required items before beginning service. Anyone added later must also complete them before serving.

Suspected abuse or immediate safety concern

Protect the person first. Make both required reports.

Do not investigate, confront the suspected person, or promise secrecy. Listen calmly, collect only basic facts, preserve confidentiality, and act promptly.

Immediate danger: call 911.
Request police or an ambulance and secure the youth or vulnerable adult's safety.

Report to the Florida Abuse Hotline.
Call 1-800-962-2873. See Florida DCF reporting guidance. Do not wait for a chat response or church approval.

Report separately to Archdiocesan HR.
Complete the U.S. reporting form and send it to hr@antiochian.org. Informing parish leadership does not replace either report.

Inform parish leadership.
Tell the supervisor and senior pastor, or the coordinator if they are unavailable. If the senior pastor is suspected, contact the coordinator or Parish Council President and the Diocesan Bishop.
