Our diocesan bishop
Born in Damascus in January 1963, Bishop NICHOLAS moved to the United States in 1981. He studied electrical and computer engineering at Northeastern University and spent nearly twenty years in engineering before entering full-time church service. In 2005, he earned a Master of Divinity with Highest Distinction from Holy Cross.
He was ordained deacon on April 23, 2004, and priest on January 9, 2005. After serving St. Philip Church in Fort Lauderdale (2005–2011) and becoming an archimandrite in 2010, he was consecrated Bishop of Brooklyn at Balamand on December 11, 2011. His 2012–2017 ministry included service at Archdiocesan headquarters and episcopal responsibility for New York and Washington, D.C.
He has led Miami and the Southeast since October 2017. His ministry emphasizes parish visits, retreats, personal spiritual guidance, and growth in God’s likeness. He strengthened diocesan ministries and Camp St. Thekla, including its winter camp, and established the DOMSE Scholarship and The Light newsletter in 2021.
