About Our Parish
Who We Are
Saint George Cathedral is a parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, serving the Orthodox faithful of Greater Miami and welcoming all who seek to know Christ and His Church. We are rooted in the apostolic Church of Antioch, where, as the Book of Acts records, the disciples were first called Christians.
We belong to the Orthodox Church—the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ, entrusted to His apostles, and revealed in fullness at Pentecost through the descent of the Holy Spirit. Since that day, the Church has faithfully preserved the fullness of the Christian faith, worship, and teaching through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
At the heart of our life is the worship of the Holy Trinity. Here, worship is not a performance or merely a lecture; it is an encounter with the living God. Through prayer, Holy Scripture, the sacraments, and the beauty of the Divine Liturgy, we are drawn into communion with Christ and with one another.
We celebrate the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom primarily in English, with portions in Arabic and occasional prayers or hymns in Greek and Spanish, reflecting both our Antiochian heritage and the diverse community we serve.
Our Story in Miami
Saint George began in 1949, when a small group of Orthodox Christians in Miami gathered to establish a church for their families. The community first worshipped in borrowed spaces, purchased its first church in 1957, and dedicated it to Saint George in 1958.
As the parish grew, it moved to Palermo Avenue in Coral Gables in 1966, where it was consecrated as a cathedral the following year. The present Byzantine-style cathedral was consecrated in 2002. Generations of parishioners have sustained its worship, Christian education, and service to others—a parish home that continues to welcome the people of Greater Miami.

The Holy Great-Martyr George
The cathedral bears the name of Saint George the Trophy-bearer — the soldier who confessed Christ before the emperor and gave his life rather than deny Him.
Saint George’s feast is usually celebrated on April 23. When its observance is transferred because of Pascha, the date changes. Please check the parish calendar for this year’s services.
