The Reverend Fr. Joseph Abouid

Rev. Father Joseph-Hector Abouid was born on December 15th, 1986, in the City of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to Issa and Lidia Abouid who originated from the small town of Beit-Jala, Palestine - the last of 5 children (two girls and three boys). Just a few months after his birth, Father's family moved to the Central American country of Honduras, where he grew up in the city of San Pedro Sula, serving the altar of the Antiochian Orthodox Church St. John the Baptist at a young age, aiding the V. Rev. Fr. Bulos E. Moussa (currently serving St. John Antiochian Orthodox Church in Levittown, NY). Father attended an American school, the International School of San Pedro Sula (or E.I.S. in Spanish), where he finished primary, middle, and high school. After graduating in 2005, at the age of 18, and without knowing one word of Arabic, he was sent by His Eminence Metr. ANTONIOS (Chedraoui) of thrice blessed memory, former Metropolitan of Mexico, Central America, Venezuela, and the Caribbean Islands, to the Faculty of Theology St. John of Damascus of the University of Balamand. There, he accomplished his first year of Arabic studies, and then went on to pursue his Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) and a Minor in Psychology; degrees which he obtained upon graduation in 2010. It is also the place where he met who later on was to become his wife, Carol El Ojeil. He then moved back to Honduras for one year to serve his parish as well as the parish’s school. In 2011, he once again embarked on another trip back to Lebanon to start his Masters in Theology (M.Th.) degree and successfully defended his Thesis Dissertation on May 07, 2018, at the Balamand, receiving a distinction of cum laude.

On August 18th, 2013, Father married Carol in the Patriarchal Monastery of Our Lady of Balamand. Three months later, on October 6th, of that same year, he was ordained a Deacon in the same place by His Eminence Metropolitan ANTONIOS (Chedraoui), and was commissioned to serve the Diocese of Venezuela and the Caribbean Islands, under His Grace Bishop IGNATIOS (Samaan) (currently Metropolitan of Mexico, Central America, Venezuela, and the Caribbean Islands). After a few months, in March of 2014, Father and Kh. Carol moved to Honduras where he served his parish for one year. On the 23rd of April 2015, they moved to Chicago, where he was assigned to the parish of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cicero, Illinois, under the V. Rev. Archpriest Fr. Nicholas Dahdal, Economos. On Sunday, June 12th, 2016, by the grace of God and through the laying on of hands of His Grace Bishop ANTHONY, Fr. Joseph was ordained into Priesthood and served as Youth Pastor and Assistant Pastor there. He was also appointed by His Grace Bishop ANTHONY as assistant Spiritual Advisor to the Young Adult Ministry (YAM) of the Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest. He was also appointed as Spiritual Advisor in 2017. On July 1st, 2017, Fr. Joseph was assigned by His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH as Head Pastor (Proistamenos) of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in El Paso, Texas and celebrated his first Divine Liturgy as Pastor on the 16thof July. That same year, on September 29, Fr. Joseph and Kh. Carol were blessed with the birth of a beautiful baby, Aidan Emmanuel Abouid. Aidan is the first son of an Orthodox Priest to have ever been born in the borderland.

A year and a half later, on January 15th, 2019, Fr. Joseph received a letter from His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH informing him of his appointment as Dean of Cathedral at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral in Coral Gables, FL. Fr. Joseph was installed as Dean by His Grace Bishop NICHOLAS on February 1st, 2019.

In May of 2019, the Abouid Family welcomed a beautiful baby girl - Haven Marie Abouid. Fr. Joseph, Kh. Carol, Aidan, Haven and their growing family currently reside in Miami, Florida.
